Anna Marie Smith

 

Anna Marie Smith, Professor of Government.

Prof. Smith teaches and conducts research in the field of political theory. She is particularly interested in feminist theory, critical race theory, law and society, sexuality studies, and contemporary social and political theory.

She is the author of three books, Welfare and Sexual Regulation (Cambridge, 2007), Laclau and Mouffe: The Radical Democratic Imaginary (Routledge, 1998) and New Right Discourse on Race and Sexuality: Britain, 1968-1990 (Cambridge University Press, 1994.)

She has forthcoming articles that will appear in the journals Signs and Feminist Theory. She served as the guest editor of the issue of Feminist Theory on welfare politics and policy that includes her article. She also has a co-edited three volume anthology on political sociology forthcoming with Ashgate. The third volume will open with her article on "Globalization and the Nation State."

Prof. Smith has also published articles in the Michigan Journal of Gender and Law, Citizenship Studies, Constellations, Social Text, Radical Philosophy, Diacritics, Feminist Review, and New Formations, as well as in numerous anthologies.

With the generous support of the Mellon New Directions Fellowship program, Prof. Smith will be a fellow of the Center for Law and Culture at Columbia Law School during the 2008-2009 academic year.
