Sherry Martin

I am broadly interested in political allegiance and alienation, mass political behavior and protest politics, comparative political party systems and political socialization. My areas of regional specialization are Japan and the US.

Current projects examine how channels of interest articulation linking elites and voters in Japanese politics have shifted over the course of the last decade, and the extent to which everyday citizens (especially women) perceive and take advantage of new opportunities to influence and extract concessions from government actors.

This interest is also reflected in my Women in East Asian Politics course which touches upon the impact of patterns of development and growing economic interdependence on how everyday women throughout the region engage in political action, broadly defined, to en-gender change in women's citizenship.
